Jade Alyse Writes

COMING FALL 2012: "The Trail's End" by Jade Alyse

Flighty and whimsical Esme Duval travels to France to study abroad. She meets Lucas Wood, a young British man on a weekend excursion to Biarritz, and quickly falls in love with him. It is only later that the man reveals that he's actually famous in his country and warns her that the media spends a great deal of time inventing stories about him.

And not long after, the media becomes fascinated with their relationship, though they attempt to keep it as private as possible. None of the stories that they fabricate are remotely close to their actual lives and to escape the scrutiny, they saunter to a friend's house in the mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. Everything seems peaceful and copacetic until a friend is mysteriously found dead in the woods.  And the only clue that the police are able to find is a ratty 5-subject notebook. There's a problem, however: the police cannot discern whether or not it's a diary or manuscript highlighting their relationship in an obsessive form.

And who wrote it?

Another problem: Esme and Lucas aren't talking...and they seem to have a secret of their own.

Reminds me of a dream I had last night: Because I Love You Last Night - e.e. cummings

because i love you)last night

clothed in sealace

appeared to me

your mind drifting

with chuckling rubbish

of pearl weed coral and stones;

lifted,and(before my

eyes sinking)inward,fled;softly

your face smile breasts gargled

by death:drowned only

again carefully through deepness to rise

these your wrists

thighs feet hands

poising

to again utterly disappear;

rushing gently swiftly creeping

through my dreams last

night,all of your

body with its spirit floated

(clothed only in

the tide's acute weaving murmur

In Honor of Love, Read Two Chapters from When You Come to Me and Kiawah for Free :)

These two particular chapters are rather special to me, as they were literally written on location. No exaggeration.  In the chapter from When You Come to Me, it took place on a honeymoon in Nevis, and I was writing it, guess where I was...on the shore of Pinney's Beach, typing away. Although the chapter from Kiawah was not in Hawaii, guess where I typed it? Overlooking the beautiful cerulean Pacific Ocean on Maui.

Although it's not a necessity, writing whilst being a part of nature does add extra spice to the sensation inside of you as you write.  There's something about looking at palm trees swaying and the current rolling that sends a genuine thrill of inspiration soaring through you.

There's no greater feeling.

Without further adieu, check out the two chapters below and pictures from my excursions.

I hope you have an amazing Valentine's Day, guys :)

READ: "Painted Leo" - A FREE Short Story by Jade Alyse

As I gear up to write another full-length novel entitled, The Trail’s End and with the unexpected success of“Amber”, a flash fiction story I wrote on a whim on the commute home from work a few weeks ago, I randomly concocted another short story, Painted Leo on the drive back from my hometown of Winston-Salem, NC. If you haven’t guessed it yet, the majority of my inspiration happens while I drive, and, consequently, I drive a great deal!

With this one I used some of my experience in Paris last summer, and used a couple of the French phrases I learned. What’s most exciting is that I can share this new writing style with you as I transition.

If you weren’t already aware, I’m not accustomed to writing about murders and women disguising themselves as French prostitutes to seek retribution from cheating husbands.  But it’s been a fun ride!

If you’ve been with me from the beginning (seeWhen You Come to Me), you’ll know that this is a huge jump!
